Currently there are 3,068 housing units in downtown accommodating more than 3,000 people.  By 2010 there will be an estimated 10,000 people living in downtown.

The type of residents attracted to the lofts in downtown Houston tend to be young urban professionals working downtown, empty nesters, and reverse commuters. The lofts tend to be in the mid to upper income level range. Loft resale prices in downtown Houston vary from approximately $150,000 for a 700 square foot unit to $450,000 for a 2,100 square foot unit (excluding penthouses). On a per square foot basis, housing resale prices are within $185 to $270 per square foot.  Rents vary from $1.00 to $2.00 per square foot per month.

Numerous articles about downtown living have been published, including Downtown Dreams in Continental Airlines' In-Flight Magazine.
