Itinerary Ideas

1. Did you buy tickets to the Astros game? Before you cheer on the 'Stros, swing into Irma’s New Southwest Grill for awesome enchiladas and a tall, icy glass of this hacienda’s legendary lemonade (Psst, don’t ask for the recipe; it’s top secret).

2. Looking for an excuse to wear those Jimmy Choos? Head downtown and saunter into the sultry Strip House for dinner while you play footsy under the table. Teeter to the new Reserve 101 Martini & Scotch Bar for a drinky, then pull an all nighter (almost) and end up at Mosaic at Bayou Place dancing until you're delirious or those stilettos give out.

3. Take the cultural high road. Catch an indie flick at the Angelika Flim Center then discuss the genius of Fellini over a gin martini at nearby Char Bar.

5. Pack a picnic basket and head to Sam Houston Park on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

6. Wake up early and beat the line at Corner Bakery Cafe. Treat yourself and your office mates to a few dozen freshly baked muffins.

7. Gather up the whole family and head to the Downtown Aquarium. Where else can you hang with exotic animals and ride the Ferris wheel all in one place?

8. Live it up lovebirds and plan a romantic getaway in the city. Check into the Alden Hotel and check out their "So Decadent" package with bubbly chilling and chocolates in your room. Cha cha cha to Sambuca and be seduced by their mahi mahi then hoof it over to the Hobby Center to see a great musical or dance troupe charge the stage!

9. Flex your intellectual might with an Inprint Brown Reading Series book reading. Afterward, discuss the lecture with your chums over a glass on pinoit noir at the historic La Carafe.

10. Boo! Looking for a frightfully good time? Take a Ghost Walk tour of downtown with Discover Houston Tours.

11. Fast on your feet? Play a pick-up game on the basketball court at Root Memorial Square, across from Toyota Center, and pretend you’re the next T-Mac. Head over to Hard Rock Cafe at Bayou Place for a big ol' burger and then to Slick Willies for a game of pool.

12. Take a long lunch and walk to The Shops at Houston Center (dumplings from Doozo Dumplings & Noodles sounds good). Then find a cozy corner of Waldenbooks, pick out a dozen books, narrow down your favorite reads and treat yourself to a literary lift.

13. Plan on sporting a green beer foam mustache March 17? For St. Patrick's sake lift a glass of Guinness Stout at Molly's Irish Pub instead! Or bring the luck of the Irish with you to the Flying Saucer Shay McElroy's or the Brewery Tap and do as the Dubliner's do, only do it downtown. Cheers.

14. Grab your best girlfriend for some quality bonding time. Check into the hip Sunset Body Works downtown and relax with a seaweed body mask. Pull out those Chanel shades and grab a light lunch on the patio at Mia Bella Trattoria- Insalata Arugula perhaps? Wrap up the day with a mesmerizing performance at the Alley Theatre.

15. Play Indiana Jones and navigate Buffalo Bayou in a canoe. Refuel at Cabo (even adventurers have an appetitie for Mexican food). Make the short walk down Texas Ave. and catch the Astros play under the stars.

16. Be a tourist in your own backyard. Check into a suite for the night at Hotel Icon and request a bath butler who will draw your hot bath while you soak in fragrant bubbles, and drink a few, too.

17. Surrender your car for the afternoon and catch a ride from downtown to the Museum District on the METRORail.
