Historic District

The Historic District is Houston’s original town center. With its 1800’s-era architecture, tree-lined streets, eclectic mix of sidewalk cafes, pubs and nighttime hotspots, the district fuses culture and commerce. You’ll also find the Harris County courts complex, professional offices and the University of Houston-Downtown.
Main Street Square

Main Street Square has innovative architecture and design built around two light rail stations along Main Street. Water fountains, unique landscaping, shopping, dining and art have transformed the location into an active town square.
Anchoring Main Street Square is Macy’s department store and The Shops at Houston Center is just two blocks away. Houston Pavilions, a new mixed-use retail and entertainment complex scheduled to open in October 2008, promises to be an exciting and addition to the square.
Skyline District
Downtown is the economic heart of Houston, with 23% of the city’s total office space and more than 150,000 workers. Fourteen of Houston’s 23 Fortune 500 companies are downtown.
Sports & Convention

The Houston Astros play at nostalgic Minute Maid Park, a new open-air baseball with a retractable roof. Toyota Center is home to the NBA’s Houston Rockets, WNBA’s Houston Comets and AHL Houston Aeros and also plays host to the nation’s top concerts and touring shows. The 1.8 million-square-foot George R. Brown Convention Center draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
Theater District


The Theater District is an impressive cultural and entertainment center. The district features eight renowned performing arts organizations in four venues – Jones Hall, the Wortham Theater Center, the Alley Theatre and the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.
You’ll also find Bayou Place which includes the Angelika Film Center, Verizon Wireless Theater, the Hard Rock Café and a variety of restaurants and clubs. The Theater District is complemented by attractions such as Houston’s only outdoor museum, the Heritage Society Museum, the Texas History Museum and Landry’s Downtown Aquarium. City Hall, Hermann Square and the Houston Public Library are all just a short walk away.
Warehouse District

You’ll find Houston’s funky alternative art scene in the Warehouse District on Downtown’s northeast side. Secluded retreats, unique dining options, live music, artists’ studios and downtown’s first lofts are all here for you to explore.
Downtown's Surrounding Communities
Downtown is at the heart of Houston’s urban core, surrounded by diverse and distinctive neighborhoods.
Just east of downtown is EaDo-- a vibrant neighborhood rich with history, interesting sites, thriving businesses and entertainment and a growing residential community.
The Sixth Ward is home to the oldest intact neighborhood in Houston, known as the "Old Sixth Ward." Apart from Galveston, the Old Sixth Ward has the most Victorian homes in the region.
With 16 stops for art, culture and science in the Museum District, you can spend the day strolling from one to the next.
You can find rre and odd items at the antique shops along 19th Street in the historic neighborhood of the Heights. And just up the road in Uptown is the world-renowned Galleria shopping center.
