Downtown Houston contains approximately 3,500 businesses and 140,000 employees in more than 40 million square feet of office space.  Downtown's office market is complemented by growing hospitality, tourism, residential and retail markets.

Numerous companies have moved or have announced moves to downtown.  These include Total which relocated its north Houston operations to downtown at the end of 2005,  El Paso Corporation with its relocation of 1,700 employees to downtown in 2004, Chevron's consolidation which resulted in a net gain of 2,000 downtown employees in (official releaseUSA Today), Burlington Resources' Houston offices and headquarters, JPMorgan Chase's North American Technology Center,  numerous law and accounting firms, and many others!
